Walkington Come From Two Down To Earn Derby Point

Walkington AFC scored two late goals as they pegged back Beverley Town Football Club twice to share the spoils in a 3-3 draw at Broadgates.

Town boss, Rich Jagger said despite the draw he was very proud of his side given the efforts the players had put in though said he was disappointed not to win.

Speaking after the game he said;

“It was a great game for the neutral, that had a bit of everything. They should have had a penalty, we missed a few good chances, tackles were flying in, keepers made good saves, it was one of those games.”

“Obviously being 3-1 up I’m disappointed we didn’t go on and win, however I am proud of the effort the lads put in.”

“They’ve had a really tough week, and I said to them afterwards they’ve given everything and I can’t fault their endeavour. We’ve got three games left and we look to finish as high as we possibly can.”

Town went into this game once back of a very tough midweek game against Hull City, looking to build on a decent performance, but wary of a cup hangover at the same time .

However there was no such thing as town started fast out of the blocks going 2-0 up inside the first 12 minutes. It was Jordan Organ on hand for both goals, coming from similar right sided set pieces, with Organ on hand on both occasions to score inside the 6 yard box.

This gave Town confidence and they controlled the game for the first 25 minutes, first to every ball and playing with confidence on a tricky surface.

Walkington got back in the game after 35 minutes, after a set piece was headed to the edge of the box and Walkington striker was on hand to fire a smart volley into the bottom corner.

Walkington came out firing in the second half, and gave their all to get back into the game. Town were starting to look weary and the effects of their midweek efforts were starting to tell. That said Town created 3 great chances to go further ahead, with Alex Stark going close on two occasions and Joe Norton firing wide from a good position .

Towns Craig Muirhead made it 1-3 after some great link up play with Niall Ringrose , and with 15 minutes left town looked to see the game out. However Walkington had other ideas, and brought on the big man up front in an attempt to go long and direct.

On 82 minutes Luke Thompson played a great cross to the back post that was easily headed in by Stansfield to make it 2-3, and set up a grandstand finish.

Walkington were now going hammer and tongue to get the equaliser, and it came after a long throw in was bundled into the path of Stansfield who fired home to make it 3-3.

There was still time for town to create one more chance, after Niall Ringrose fired a good shot across the keeper, the ball fell nicely to Muirhead who volleyed towards the top corner form 18 yards out, only for the young keeper to produce a fine save and keep the scores level at 3-3.

The final whistle then followed on what was an entertaining local derby.
