Drivers are to be asked for their help with a series of roadside surveys taking place in Beverley this month on behalf of East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

The surveys are being held to collect information on the journeys people make on the roads around Beverley and will take place between Tuesday 13 and Thursday 22 June.

Dave Waudby, the council’s head of infrastructure and facilities, said:

“We’d like to thank drivers in advance for their cooperation and patience while the road surveys are carried out and apologise for any short delays they may cause to people’s journeys.

“The interviewing team will endeavour to carry out the surveys as quickly as possible to keep this disruption to a minimum.

“The information we will collect is extremely important because it will help the council shape future highway improvements for the benefit of all road users.”

Vehicles will be stopped at random between 7am and 7pm each day and the drivers will be asked a series of questions about their journey.

All the information collected will help the council formulate plans for future improvements to the area’s road network, as it looks at ways to reduce congestion and delays.

The surveys will be conducted by contractor Nationwide Data Collection (NDC) on behalf of the council, and officers will be on site to help direct traffic in and out of the survey locations.

Drivers will be asked six simple questions about their journey, including the addresses of where they are travelling to and from. Interviews should take no longer than a couple of minutes.

There will be a sign at each survey location informing drivers why they are being stopped.
