A new charitable fund aimed at helping to support the health and well-being of people living in the East Riding of Yorkshire has been launched by Help for Health.

Lynda Emily Lazenby, the fund’s benefactor, was from a large philanthropic family and lived all her life in the rural villages of the East Riding.

Mrs Lazenby, whose husband had a local haulage business, was always keen to support medical related activity and had a particular interest in helping support people whose care needs could not be met through the NHS.

The first grant of £6,688 from the Lazenby Fund has been awarded to local charity Beverley Community Lift, to help them purchase a second-hand, wheelchair-adapted vehicle with a hydraulic lift.

This vehicle will allow them to more easily transport people who are in a fixed wheelchair; specifically to enable them to attend medical appointments.

Beverley Community Lift provides a voluntary community transport service for people who are unable to easily use other forms of transport in Beverley, , and surrounding villages.

Andrew Mould, Trustee said:

“Lynda Lazenby was a genteel, unassuming lady who loved the East Riding area and who wished to leave a legacy there to assist residents with genuine medical needs that could not be met by government or other authorities. She would be delighted that this Fund bearing her name has now been formally launched.”

CEO of Beverley Community Lift, said:

“We are delighted and honoured to be the first recipients of a grant from The Lazenby Fund. This money has helped us to buy a new-to-us wheelchair-adapted minibus, which we have called ‘Begonia’. This new minibus will enable us to transport those people who have to remain in their wheelchairs for the duration of their journey, and it has additional seats to accommodate their family, or carers also.”

The Lazenby Fund is being managed by the local charity, Help for Health, which shares similar objectives but covers the wider area of East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire.

Applications can be made through the Help for Health website – www.helphealth.org.uk
