The new Molescroft Link Road which during its construction has caused so much misery to road users is set to open next week according to local Councillor .

News that the road will finally open should be good news for motorists making it easier for people to get around the town and for those passing through.

Since his appointment Cllr Healy, who represent St Mary’s Ward in Beverley has been very supportive to residents and their concerns over the disruption caused during works to construct the link road.

Commenting on the news that it will soon be open Cllr Healy said;

“Council officers have told me that the housebuilder has advised that they will be opening the new Molescroft link road to traffic next Wednesday, 1 February.”

“I understand that this will happen in the early hours of Wednesday morning, so early morning commuters that day will be among the first to get the chance to use it.”

“Assuming this happens, the significance of a low key opening at dead of night is perhaps fitting for a highway project that has been a thorn in the side of so many residents.”

“We have had months of delays, poor communications, completely unacceptable traffic chaos in the autumn, and a Council which has had no say, and been unable to impose penalties because it chose to concede control over the highway construction to a housebuilder.”

“I asked the leader of the Council at a recent Council meeting if the Council was going to learn any lessons from this, and I sincerely hope they do.”

When open the road will help to ease the traffic bottle necks like the one where Woodhall Way joins the Driffield Road.

Now nearing its completion, Cllr Healy is hopeful residents can now enjoy the benefits, he said;

“I think everyone now wants to move on from this, and feel the benefits of the improved traffic flow around Beverley and Molescroft that this will bring.”
