UK’s Biggest Drive-In Cinema Comes To Beverley

Beverley Racecourse will be the venue as the UK’s Biggest Drive-In Cinema Comes to the town this month complete with a string of blockbuster movies.

From the 21 January the Drive- In Cinema will show a 15 popular films each evening with anyone wanting to go being charge £25 per car as oppose to paying per person.

Moonlight Drive-In who are a company from Scarborough, will not only be showing films in Beverley. Locally they will also showing films in Hull, York and Doncaster.

Director Ben Stonehouse said;

“As a business we have been going for two years. We have the only UK permanent Drive-In Cinema that is located in Kent.”

“This year we aim to tour the entire country. We decided on Beverley as while looking for a site in  Hull as we wanted to be part of  their the UK City of Culture year we were approached by the Racecourse.”

“What we are offering here is a full retro ‘American’ experience that all the family can enjoy even if they have babies and small children.”

 While the movie Grease is already sold out other top films scheduled to be screen include Dirty Dancing, The Bodyguard, Love Actually, The Lion King and Toy Story with many other family friendly titles.

Booking is simple. All you need to do is visit the web site order and print your tickets. On arrival you just need to park up and tune your radio into the sound track.

When asked what feedback has been like for their other sites Mr. Stonehouse said;

“People love it. We have had older couples who come along to re-live their experiences from the past when they have travelled to the US and visited a Drive-In Cinema.”

Drive-In’s proved to be very popular in the 1950s and 1960s with over 4000 such cinemas operating in the USA mainly in rural areas.

The concept proved to be a real success with both teenagers and families though started to fall into decline with the emergence of VHS tapes.
