Beverley Town Football Club secured all three points as they came from a goal down to beat Chalk Lane 3-1 at the Norwood Recreation.

A second half brace from the Matty Littlefield ensured Town started the year with all three points and also climb one place in .

Town’s assistant coach Arthur Jessop said;

“This was a great team performance. Everyone played a huge part and I thought we fully deserved the win.”

“We went behind against the run of play and showed great character to get back in the game. It’s difficult to single out individuals, but Matty Littlefield was on fire today.”

“I thought our defence was superb, particularly Danny MacHale and , who kept the experienced Scott Phillips quiet all game.”

“We won today as a result of a great team effort, fitness, tempo, pressure and quality. All round we were the better side.”

Town started the stronger of the tow sides though against the run of play fell behind when Chris Wainman showed great agility to as he volleyed home from 7 yards out.

After falling behind Town seemed to lose their way in the game and as the momentum switched to the visitors they looked to find their new star signing Scott Phillips.

Town nearly levelled the match after some good work presented just two yards out with an open goal however his effort was was matched by Chalk Lanes keeper Liam Gordon.

Parity was restored when Murihead got Town level before the break with all three points being secured by Littlefield double in the second period.

Town’s skipper Nathan White praised the side after the game, he said;

“It was an excellent first half performance and a top effort from all the lads. We played the right way all the way through the game. At the back we were solid, McHale and  Thomas made sure Phillips was a non event.”
