People in Hull can be part of a human ribbon of red light to mark World Aids Day tonight. People are invited to the Stage@theDock amphitheatre, where they will be given a red light to hold up. Participants will form a red Aids ribbon and a photograph will be taken and shared on social media.

The event is organised by sexual health organisation Yorkshire Mesmac, which will join people and organisations around the globe in marking World Aids Day.

World Aids Day is held on December 1 each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. It was the first ever global health day, and was held for the first time in 1988.

Cllr Gwen Lunn, portfolio holder for Public Health, Prevention and Safeguarding Adults, said: “This is a simple but effective and impactive way to commemorate World Aids Day. Forming a human ribbon of light quite literally invites people to come together to recognise this cause and pay tribute to those living with the illness today and those who have lost their lives to it.

“Everyone is welcome tomorrow, the aim is to bring as many people together as possible”.

Anyone interested in participating, including individuals or organisations, is invited to the Stage@TheDock the new Amphitheatre opposite (47 Queen St, Hull HU1 1UU) at 6.30pm tonight. Mesmac are encouraging people to wear red but please wrap up warm as it will be cold!

To help understand numbers it would be useful if people could inform if they are coming by booking through Eventbrite free tickets, however this is not essential:
