Beverley Literature Festival Welcomes Children

AN AFTERNOON OF HISTORY TO ROUND OFF 10TH BEVERLEY LITERATURE FESTIVAL

Beverley Literature Festival welcomes children (and families!) to enjoy a whole day of fun at the children’s events on Saturday 8 October at Beverley Library, supported by Beverley Building Society.

There’s a spooky start to the day as festival favourites Puppets, Plays and Story Days present a fabulous puppet version of The Westwood Troll along with author Marion Gamble. Dare you go and find out who growls and frightens children and makes them howl? Of course you do!

And shiver me timbers! Captain Crossbones will be making an appearance with his tales of pirates, buried treasure and adventures on the high seas. Dress up as a pirate and join the crew for your very own swashbuckling adventure if you dare….arrrrgh, me hearties!

Settle down with local author Valerie L Pate for a cosy autumn story and a sneak preview of her next book The Fox and The Hedgehog. Followed by a craft session all about engaging creatively with nature and autumnal themes, they’ll be plenty of sticking, cutting, talking and listening to Valerie’s heart-warming stories.

If it’s cartoons you’re into, pop along to Bill Booth’s cartoon drawing workshop in the afternoon. Bill’s after doodlers, budding artists and sketchers to show off their skills – and maybe learn some new ones – in this inspiring afternoon workshop, all abilities welcome.

Rounding off the day is the ever-popular bedtime story session, Peace at Last. Make sure you’re dressed for bed and bring your teddy for a cosy bedtime story session with biscuits and milk – and that’s just the parents.

But when everyone else has left the library and all is quiet …get your torches at the ready for Spookarama! Listen out for the ghouls and ghosts in our hairy scary spooky story, but beware – when the lights will go down, things may just go bump in the night. With fang-tastic games and scariest costume competition.

All tickets £3 each or £5 for two. Accompanying adults free. Available from in person from Beverley Library, online at www.litup.org.uk or by phoning the Lit Up box office on 01482 392699 (Mon – Thur 9am- 4.45pm, Fri 9am – 4pm).
