Another Star Attraction For Hull’s Big Bus Day

This September’s Big Bus Day event has announced its star attraction – an EYMS bus from 1929.

The fully restored former East Yorkshire bus was recently purchased by a vintage transport enthusiast in the area, and will visit the popular event at Hull’s Streetlife Museum for the first time.

Jointly organised by local bus company (EYMS) and Hull , Big Bus Day attracted well over 7,000 people in each of the last two years, and featured on the Channel 5 documentary ‘On The Yorkshire Buses’.

The family friendly event, which is free entry, takes place on Saturday 10 September, 10am – 4pm, at the Streetlife Museum of Transport on Hull’s High Street.

Attractions include free open-top bus trips around the city, a display of vintage and modern buses, a children’s trail and bus-related games and activities, the award-winning EYMS Brass Band, stalls selling bus models, photos and memorabilia, facepainting, and much more.

Ideal for both families and bus enthusiasts alike, there’s also the opportunity to look around the fascinating displays of the Streetlife Museum.

Peter Shipp, chairman of EYMS, said:

“We’re delighted to have the unique 1929 Leyland Tiger bus with us this year at Big Bus Day. We’ll also have a host of other vintage and modern buses, including some special, never-seen-before bus liveries which we’ll be unveiling on the day, with one to celebrate our 90th anniversary, so bus fans will be sure to see something new.”

Councillor Terry Geraghty, Chair of Culture and Leisure Limited and Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture, said:

“The Big Bus Day is always a popular event in the Museums’ annual calendar and it gets better every year, offering something for everyone to enjoy and admire.

“We have a fantastic relationship with EYMS and we thoroughly enjoy hosting this fantastic day. We hope as many people as possible will come along and enjoy this free event.”

Admission and most activities are free, although donations will be collected in support of the NSPCC and other charities.
