Bond Has Licence To Thrill Ladies At Beverley

Bond Bombshell will attempt to do her bit for girl power on Journal Ladies’ Day at Beverley on Wednesday.

The three-year-old filly, trained by David O’Meara, is a real course specialist and bids for a fourth victory on the Westwood in the concluding race of Beverley’s most popular afternoon of the season.

Bond Bombshell is one of nine declared runners for division two of the Ladies Day Handicap (5.35) over the flying five furlongs and arrives in East Yorkshire on the back of a dominant triumph at the track on July 26.

The three-year-old daughter of Monsieur Bond was bred at Little Manor Farm, Nawton, by Penelope Avison, who also owns the horse under the Trendy Ladies syndicate banner.

Mrs Avison and the 15-strong Trendy Ladies have been a staple of the Beverley summer, with their enthusiastic celebrations a regular feature in the winner’s enclosure.

Connections of Bond Bombshell are optimistic the filly can once again shine at her favourite course.

Mrs Avison said: “David only runs his horses if they are in good order and all the reports are that our filly is in great form.

“I thought she was quite businesslike in the way she won last time, and even though she’s gone up 4lb, you can never rule her out at Beverley.

“David used to train next to me at Nawton and the gallops there have an uphill shoot. I’m sure that’s really helped her run at a track like Beverley as it really built up her back-end and has got her well balanced.

“It’s always very difficult to win a race, but when it happens it’s a momentous, wonderful feeling.

“And even if it doesn’t happen, The Trendy Ladies are always out to enjoy ourselves – which has to be what racing is all about.

“Beverley do a wonderful job and Ladies’ Day is always a great occasion, with all the colour and all of those fantastic outfits.

“The Trendy Ladies are probably a bit long in the tooth now to keep up with the height of fashion, but, as always, we’ll be out to have fun – win, lose or draw.”

Premier tickets are sold out for Journal Ladies’ Day – though grandstand, paddock and course enclosure tickets are still available and can be booked up until 2pm on raceday.

Gates open at 11am for pavilion guests, and 11.30am for the rest of the course, with racing due to begin at 2pm.

Light watering is taking place to preserve the going, which is good to firm, with sunny intervals forecast and temperatures set to rise to 17C for Journal Ladies’ Day.
