Tickton Primary School To Hold Open Garden Day

Tickton Primary School say they are looking forward to the weekend as they prepare for their Open Garden Day.

Taking place on 17 June from 10AM to 3PM members of the public will be invited to take a look at the efforts of their pupils who have grown a range of plants, food and much more.

Speaking about the event a spokes person for the school said;

“Staff and pupils are looking forward to sharing their wonderful school grounds with the public as part of the National Garden Scheme (NGS) which raises money for charities.”

“The open day will allow the visitors to see the fruit, vegetable and herb plots, a large poly-tunnel used for growing more tender crops and the attractive flower borders at the school’s reception area.”

“A shaded woodland walk leads to a tranquil pond area where visitors will be able to go pond dipping. There is also a wonderfully messy and incredibly popular ‘Mud Kitchen’ where children can get ‘hands on’ with the base material for growing.”

“Throughout the grounds there are areas dedicated to wildlife, including bug hotels that the children created during their Eco Day activities.”

“Members of Class 5 will be on-hand to give guided tours of the gardens and grounds – a treat which last year’s visitors found invaluable as it demonstrates the children’s knowledge and appreciation of their outdoor environment.”

“Visitors will have the opportunity to buy plants raised by the children and products the Y6’s have made as part of an enterprise project.”

Refreshments will also be available with members of the Parents & Friends Association will be serving tea and cakes in ‘The Lodge’.

Admission is £2.50 per adult, with accompanied children free – these proceeds will go directly to the NGS charities. Plant sales will contribute to the funding of outdoor education within school.
