Young People And Holidaymakers Must Register For EU Poll

Local campaigners are reminding young who are not yet registered, that they will miss the EU vote in the forthcoming referendum if they fail to register ahead of the June 7th deadline.

The appeal follows a major speech by Labour leader . Young people will be those most affected by the outcome of the referendum result and addressing his remarks to Britain’s youth he said;

“Take destiny in your own hands, register to vote and make your decision. Don’t let somebody else make it for you.”

Speaking today East Riding Labour Spokesman said;

“Following my discussions with the area’s Returning Officers who are responsible for the voting, it’s apparent that many thousands of young people and older people, have failed to register under the new system for registration which was introduced last year.”

“It’s the future we’re talking about and they must contact their local town hall before June 7th or miss out.”

“In the run up to the Scottish referendum, 140,000 people registered at the last minute. If this is repeated across the UK, the figure could be over a million.”

“I would also appeal to holidaymakers who are likely to be away on 23 June. Anyone can apply for a postal vote but you must do so by 8 June for people living on the UK mainland.”
