Council Enters Into Exclusivity Agreement On Skidby Mill

has announced today that it has concluded the process of seeking expressions of interest from suitable parties for and Heritage Centre.

Currently operated by the council as a visitor attraction it is the home of the Museum of East Riding Rural Life. The facility includes the area’s only working windmill and is open all year round, as well as offering conference and catering facilities.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is exploring options for the future of the listed facility, with a view to making the most of its heritage value and making the best use of the site.

The closing date for expressions of interest was 27 January 2016 and the council can confirm that one expression of interest was received from the Millhouse Restaurant at Skidby.

The council will now enter into an exclusivity agreement with the Millhouse Restaurant for a period of six months to enable them to put forward a more detailed proposal for the future of the facility for the council to consider. If a viable proposal is put forward by the restaurant, a decision about the future of the mill can then be made by the council’s Cabinet.

The council understands that Skidby Mill is a much loved and iconic building and has not made any decisions about future arrangements for the facility and it is very much as usual for the mill, museum and adjoining independently run cafe Staff and commercial tenants at the site have been notified.

Mark Ciuffetelli, owner of the Millhouse Restaurant, said:

“It will be very much business as usual at our restaurant, as we look forward to exploring options with the council over the next six months.”
