Flemingate Gets Into the Spirit Of Things To Mark Dad’s Army Film Launch

, the movie goes on general release as of today, Friday 5 February and given that some of the film was shot in local businesses are preparing a special day at Flemingate.

This Saturday will see people dressed as Home Guards patrolling Flemingate and there will also be a display of military vehicles.

Cliff Baillie, General Manager at Parkway Cinema, said:

“Everyone at Parkway Cinema is very excited to be screening Dad’s Army as some important scenes were filmed in Beverley and local residents feel a real connection with the film.”

“It’s great that Flemingate is getting into the spirit to celebrate Beverley’s involvement and it will create a real buzz around the shopping centre.”

Deli No.1 Tony Moxon who has been keen to engage with the local community as Flemingate looks to try and attract more people to visit says he is looking forward to the weekend.

Mr. Moxon said:

“We are proud to be involved with the Dad’s Army launch, especially as some of it was filmed here in Beverley.”

“The Deli will be decorated and we’ll be handing out ration book flyers to promote the film and our special wartime sandwich, with our usual Deli No.1 twist.”

Throughout February people will also be able to take advantage of free parking at weekends, a move that is also aimed at getting more people to visit Flemingate.

Parkway Cinema, one the real success stories of the new development will be screening the Dad’s Army film which has received a mixed response from critics.

At a screening of the film earlier in the week at The Spa those the film was received very well by those who watched it.

Screen Yorkshire and others groups that promote the county as a whole are confident that the film will help bring visitors to the various locations where the film was shot.
