Beverley Coach Optimistic Ahead of Trip To Pocklington

will be hoping to make it back to back wins this weekend as they take on local rivals Pocklington in the Northern Division.

In the reverse fixture back in October Pocklington claimed the win with the turning point in the match being the loss of Beverley’s play maker Phil Duboulay.

Although Pocklington are lying in a handy fifth position in the league table, and also recorded a good victory at Percy Park, Beverley Head Coach Simon Cowling is confident that his charges can maintain their improved form.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s game Cowling said;

“There was little between the two teams when we lost to them at Beaver Park last October and in fact, that game was very even until we lost skipper and playmaker Duboulay at half time.”

“Pocklington play a similar type of game as Morpeth and we will be ready for that.”

Beverley have every reason to be optimistic going into the match and they have proved that if they have the players available they are able to compete.

Cowling added;

“Saturday was a terrific performance to beat Morpeth by 40 points to 38.”

“We were heavily outweighed by the much larger Morpeth pack and were pushed backwards at an alarming rate at every set scrum.”

“However in the loose play we made full use of what little possession we enjoyed and the got the result.”

It is likely Duboulay will again play a key role in a Beverley side that has seen the introduction of both young and old players as people push for a place in the first team.

Duboulay enjoyed a 100pc strike rate on Saturday slotting every opportunity he had over the posts with pin point accuracy.

With the game taking place so close to Beverley it is hoped that fans will make the short trip down the A1079 to get behind the Beavers and cheer them on in the 2.15PM kick off.
