Hodgsons Ease Past Beverley In The Derby

Hodgsons FC have moved into second place in the East Riding County League after they beat local rivals Beverley Town 4-0 at the Beverley Leisure Centre.

On a bitterly cold afternoon, were forced to make a number of changes that included playing an outfield player, Luke Oldfield in goal.

For the Tanners, this was an eagerly awaited match with one of their former players, Mike Martin, captaining Beverley against his former club.

Hodgsons cruised the first half scoring three goals. Jonathan Cook-Hannah got the opener for the home side before Michael Claxton helped himself to a brace.

A rousing team talk at half time from the Town gaffer Rich Jagger saw his side put in a much better performance in the second half.

It was to be one of Hodgsons ‘old guard’ that was to have the final say in the derby as Paul Silvester scored the Tanners fourth capping off a great performance.

Town’s gaffer was still upbeat despite seeing his side lose, choosing to focus on the positives.
Commenting after the match, Jagger said;

“It was a deserved win for Hodgsons. After a really slow start from us, we found ourselves 3-0 down at halftime. I was more impressed with our second half performance. It was a lot better from everyone. More aggression and tempo made the difference.”

“We had a very young team out today, but they hopefully learnt a lot about men’s football. One major positive being we had nine players missing, and still managed to field a 14 man squad.”

“Well done to all that played including the three lads making debuts in men’s football. A special mention too for Oldfield for going in goal at short notice.”

Next weekend, Beverley Town Academy takes on Reserves, the side that is one place above them in the East Riding County League.

Final Score: Hodgsons FC 4 Beverley Town Academy 0
