Beverley chef was celebrating his restaurant’s inclusion in the 2016 Michelin Guide by wowing the crowds at Cottingham Food Festival on Sunday.

John, of Whites, in North Bar Without, had learned earlier in the week that the restaurant, the only one in Beverley to also be included in the 2016 Good Food Guide, had been praised by Michelin inspectors, who described his food as “ambitious and creative” and an example of the very best modern cooking.

“I have to say I was a little disappointed not to be awarded a , especially after the positive feedback I got when the Michelin inspectors visited the restaurant, but it’s still nice to know we’re regarded as one of the very best locally and one of only a handful to be included in the guide,” he said.

John was one of eight chefs giving cookery demonstrations at the Cottingham festival, which attracted huge crowds. He produced two dishes – slow-roasted belly pork with a pearl barley risotto and hand-dived scallops with chorizo and samphire. And afterwards those packing the food theatre were able to sample the end result.

“I love supporting local festivals not least because it allows me to show off a little of what we at Whites believe in – using only the very best ingredients, locally produced where possible, to produced food that excites the senses.”

In two weeks time John will be one of the local chefs taking part in this year’s Beverley Food Festival, which takes place on Sunday, October 4, in , Beverley.
