Beverley Braves Come From Behind To Beat East Hull

Beverley Braves under 12s ground out a well-earned victory over on a fine Sunday morning, overcoming a 4 nil half time scoreline to prevail 6-4 after Owen Miller kept his emotions in order to slot home the winning conversion in the dying stages of this often brutal encounter dominated by defence.

Beverley had grown in confidence after last week’s defeat to a big Cottingham Tigers side and didn’t give Easts a second to settle as great defence from the Beverley back row of Josh Hamlyn, Isaac Merryweather and worked them over-all morning, and a little wider out Cain Robb and Charlie Gay put in some big shots to keep the pressure on. Up front, the returning Alex Nuttall led the charge with a man of the match performance playing every minute as he ran the opposition forwards ragged in his best display to date.

A great kicking game from number seven Joe McCabe backed up by a good chase and defence allowed the Braves to stay in the game, despite some unusual calls from the official, until deep into the second period.

Then Cain Robb smashed on to a Charlie Gay short ball to bulldoze his way over in typical fashion for his 13th try of the season, Miller settling things with the boot. More desperate defence for the closing minutes earned the Beverley lot the two points which was well deserved.

Special mention for debutant Joel McKenna who did great coming off the bench and Josh Hamlyn, Alexei Rawlings, Shamus Blades and Joe McCabe, who all pushed for man of the match.

Afterwards Coach Craig Collin’s said;

“The greater the struggle, the greater the triumph.”
