Beverley Town Fourths Beaten as Season Comes to an End

On what was the last game of the Beverley Town Cricket Club fourth team’s season, they hosted a good Eastrington at the Norwood Recreation Ground.

Eastrington won the toss and put Beverley into bat, who included a couple of youngsters in their line-up to fill up absentees, one who was usual skipper and opening batsman RJ Thompson.

Beverley’s innings didn’t get off to the best of starts, as James Turner was dismissed early on for just 5. In came Bradley Benyon (32) who built a good partnership with other opening batsmen Will Fish (70) before Benyon was run out.

Wickets continued to fall throughout the innings, and Beverley managed to accumulate a slightly below par score, on a good batting track, of 177, thanks mainly to Fish. The pick of the bowlers was T Reed who finished with figures of 3-24.

Eastrington in return, however, got off to a good start, with Briggs (34) and Walsh (57) defending and attacking well when necessary.

As the opening bowlers didn’t have much luck, on came Pip Pearson, who managed to slow the run rate down slightly, and also chipped in with a wicket, a simple caught and bowled.

One more wicket fell from another slow bowler in Mudd, but Tooke saw his side home with the best part of 9 overs to spare with a quick, unbeaten 57*.

Beverley didn’t manage to finish on a high, but can take a lot of positives into the next season coming up, and can hope to gain more success.
