Dominic Usher Performs Well at Thruxton

from rode to a strong 11th place in round eight of the 1000 championship at Thruxton over the weekend to move into 11th place on 29 points in the overall rider standings.

Following the terminal problem with the BMW at Brands Hatch last time out a new engine was fitted on Thursday prior to free practice the next day where Dom spent time running in the engine before going for a fast lap in qualifying.

Dom explained: ” So on Wednesday I had no engine and wasn’t racing at Thruxton, but thanks to Clive Padgett of Padgetts Motorcycles we picked up an engine on Thursday and fitted it ready for running in on the dyno on Friday morning for an hour and a half and then a 25 minute practice session before qualifying 10th. I have gone slightly faster than last year so I couldn’t be happier. All thanks go to Clive and Fiona Padgett and my father for making it happen this weekend, I couldn’t be more grateful!”

Starting from the fourth row in 10th position Dom didn’t get the best of starts but moved up into 10th position on lap eight of 16 before passing Leon Jeacock for ninth one lap later. Looking to move further forward and heading a large group of riders who were all chasing for eighth position Dom held his position and began to make inroads to the group ahead but with two laps remaining he overshot the chicane when the back tyre stepped out demoting him down to 11th position where he stayed to the chequered flag.

Dom said: “My result didn’t really reflect my pace as my sector times showed that I was one of the fastest riders out there and I was fastest in the ideal times. Also I recorded the third fastest lap of the race.”

Dom has a three week break now before the next round that takes place at in Lincolnshire over the weekend of August 21-23 when Dom will be seeking a good result to move him up the rider standings.
