Beverley Minster and Town Council Link Up For Yorkshire Day

Beverley Town Council and Beverley Minster have come together to celebrate Yorkshire Day in Beverley on Saturday 1 August.

Town Clerk said;

“This is a first time event for both organisations, following on from the success of other events the Town Council and the Minster have worked on together.”

“It will be a Yorkshire day of celebration and will take place within the Minster grounds and inside the Minster. The Mayor of Beverley will be holding his Civic Service to start the day’s celebration at 11.30pm.

“This will be followed by a family day garden party in the grounds of the Minster from 1pm. There will be lots of traditional garden party stalls and attractions such as splat the rat, hook a duck, vintage fairground ride, swing boats, teddy bears picnic, tombola, Indigo Moon Theatre presenting Saraswati dancing marionettes, and Poppy Spolognaise, children’s circus skills, entertainment and activities, stocks, live and much more.”

“Stalls will be staffed by Minster volunteers, Town Councillors, Officers and volunteers from the Mayoral charities, Beverley Community Lift and the Beverley Stroke Club. Delicious cream teas will be available along with other food stalls.”

“Beverley Brass Band, Beverley Garland Dancers, along with other musicians from the Sessions will add to the celebration in true Yorkshire style.”

“There will be a grand finale ‘Patchwork of Beverley Musical Proms’ concert starting from 5.30 pm to take place in the Minster, where there will be an exciting line-up of local entertainment to include Dr Jive and the Sick-notes, Beverley Brass Band and Westwood Session artists. There will be a fancy dress competition with a Yorkshire theme with a prize for the winner. “

Mayor of Beverley Cllr said;

“I am looking forward to the inaugural Yorkshire day celebrations in Beverley. Beverley Town Council is happy to be working with Beverley Minster again. I will also be holding my Civic Service at 11.30am to start the celebrations.”

“It offers a great opportunity to my Mayoral Charities, Beverley Community Lift and the Beverley Stroke Club to raise awareness of two worthwhile local charities. Any funds raised will be shared between the charities and the Minster. We hope lots of residents and visitors will come along and celebrate.”

Beverley Minter Church Warden Peter Mounstephen said;

“The Minster is looking forward to opening its grounds for a great family day out. We will be serving some wonderful cream teas and celebrating in a great Yorkshire style, let’s be patriotic about our Beverley.”

Town Clerk Helen Watson added;

“Yorkshire Day celebrations will be very exciting. We have a lot to celebrate about Beverley and what better place to celebrate Yorkshire day than in the grounds of our majestic Minster.”

“We hope lots of people will attend to support this event. Admission is free to the garden party and the proms are by charity donation on the door so come along and join the festivities.”

“There will be something for everyone to enjoy. With the Patchwork Proms Concert featuring, fantastic local talent, we hope it will be a wonderful community day celebration in Beverley.”
