Beverley Grammar School student Joe Hibbs says work experience is an important part of growing up adding that his placement this week was a real opportunity to understand what actually happens in the workplace.
Mr. Hibbs who is 15 years old has been working the Beverley based public relations agency Divine Clark PR where he has gained first-hand experience of what it’s like to work in the world of PR.
Speaking to HU17.net he said;
“I chose this placement as when I leave school, I would like to work within marketing or graphic design.”
“During my week’s work experience, I’ve been tasked with researching the history Beverley for a client project, I have been shown the art of formulating press releases and extracted information for research purposes on another client’s business.”
“It has been a very useful placement for me because I’ve always wondered if this was the right career for me. Having worked with Divine Clark PR within the media industry, this has secured that thought and is certainly a career I wish to pursue.”
When asked why he felt work experience was important to young people Mr. Hibbs said;
“By completing work a experience programme I hope it will be less of a shock when I go into the workplace for real. Furthermore, taking part gives me great experience and also something to put on my CV that is relevant to what I want to do for a career.”
“It is very hard these days to get a job even when you get all your grades at school, by doing this it will show potential employers that I am prepared to work.”
Business owner Jess Clark was equally as positive saying;
“I think it’s really important to give young people the experience, so they understand what it’s like to work with adults and in a live working environment, I am very pleased with his efforts this week.”
While Joe will return to school to complete his GCSEs in September he is determined to carve out a career for himself in online media marketing.
