Community Buses Expand Services In Hornsea And Arram

Two new routes will be added to community bus services in Hornsea and Arram to help local residents.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has worked with the operators of two community bus services HART (Holderness Area Rural Transport) and Beverley Community Lift – to bring their services to two new areas.

In Hornsea, the residents in Cheyne Garth and Cheyne Walk had asked if their roads could be added to the route of the 550 bus, but because there is nowhere for a regular sizes bus to turn around on their estate, that was not possible.

But now the council and HART have come together with Hornsea Town Council and East Yorkshire Motor Services to come up with a solution.

They have arranged for the Holderness MiBus service to be available to call at homes along Cheyne Garth and Cheyne Walk every Tuesday, and also every last Friday of the month, starting on Tuesday 7 April.

The door-to-door bus service will take passengers from those two streets to The Willows, the supermarket and Hornsea Freeport.

Following a similar request from residents in Arram, the council has arranged for the Beverley MiBus to be available to visit the village every Tuesday.

Passengers will be taken door-to-door from Arram to the supermarket in Beverley, via Lockington, Lund, Etton, Cherry Burton and Bishop Burton.

Cllr Symon Fraser, the council’s portfolio holder for environment, housing and planning, said: “This is a great example of the council and the MiBus services working together to improve transport in the area.

“I’m glad we could help residents in these areas of Hornsea and Arram, and I hope the services will be well used.”
Caroline Wegrzyn, manager of HART, said:

“We are always happy to look at filling the gaps where commercial services can’t put a service on.”

Jan Stainforth, CEO of Beverley Community Lift, said: “We are glad to extend the service to people who need it, who might be isolated and find it difficult to get to the shops.”

All trips on the Holderness MiBus and the Beverley MiBus services MUST be booked in advance by calling 08456 445949.
Seats are allocated on a first come, first served basis. Concessionary bus passes can be used and the buses are wheelchair accessible.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council runs the booking services for the MiBus services, which are run by the community partnerships.
