Residents Urged To Take Care As More Winter Weather Expected

Gritter in Beverley

East Riding residents have been warned to take extra care when travelling, with the possibility of further snow falling tonight, particularly on higher ground.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s gritters will again be out this evening. The council plans to treat the precautionary network again to ensure the main roads are well gritted ahead of further predicted sleet or snow showers. The secondary network was treated today.

Sub-zero temperatures are predicted across the region this evening, and these are likely to fall as low as minus four degrees on the Wolds.

Sleet or rain is expected to follow tomorrow morning, which will make conditions difficult, particularly where this falls on freezing surfaces.

Mike Featherby, the council’s head of streetscene services, said; “The council is continuing with winter maintenance operations and will do so throughout this period of inclement weather.

“We are continuing to monitor weather conditions closely and are conducting operations in accordance with our winter plan, with staff and equipment on standby to support our residents.

“Motorists are advised to plan their journeys in advance, allow extra time for travel and to drive to the conditions.”
