Theatre In Education Aims To Make A Big Difference

Pupils in primary schools across the East Riding will have lessons in healthy eating and physical activity – thanks to an innovative form of drama.

’s public health team has organised a series of Change4Life BIG Difference theatre performances in local schools during the week starting Monday 10 November.

BIG Difference is an interactive performance which promotes the key Change4Lifge messages by encouraging pupils to eat more healthily and increase their physical activity levels.

It uses a form of drama known as Theatre in Education to address the health messages in a new and enthusiastic way, followed by a workshop to discuss what the children have learned. Parents are also invited to attend.

The performances will take place at a number of schools in the area including St Mary’s Primary School, Beverley on Thursday 13 November.

Councillor Jonathan Owen, said:

“Nine out of 10 children today could grow up with dangerous amounts of fat in their bodies. This can cause life-threatening diseases such as cancer, type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

“Change4Life is part of a national campaign to encourage people to eat healthily and move more, and BIG Difference is a great way of getting the message across to children and parents. I hope that parents will take the opportunity to go along to the performances and watch them with their children.”
