In August, members of the Beverley Building Society voted on mass to ensure that the British Red Cross won the charity of the month competition to receive a £250 donation from the Society.
Most are familiar with the humanitarian aid that the British Red Cross performs overseas on a daily basis but often the work on home soil goes unnoticed. In the Yorkshire region, the charity offer services to anyone who has suffered a personal crisis from floods to loneliness.
Max Newton, Senior Community Fundraiser at the British Red Cross said:
“I’m absolutely delighted that customers of the Beverley Building Society chose the British Red Cross to be its charity of the month, and thrilled and very grateful for the donation.”
“The money will enable the Red Cross to help people whose lives have been devastated by crises and disasters, both overseas and right here in Beverley and East Yorkshire. Overseas, these include typhoons, tsunamis, earthquakes, famine and war. Right here at home they include flooding, house fires, extreme weather and more.”
Running for over 2 years, the competition has so far given members the opportunity to vote for 32 different charities, all of which have received a £250 donation from the Society.
Mike Plaster, Marketing Manager at Beverley Building Society said:
“Many people find it difficult to support their chosen charities on a regular basis which is why we feel it is important to give our members the opportunity to nominate charities for the competition as well as choosing the winner.”
