All Going To Plan that was the headline across the front of the late edition of The Star on this day 70 years ago, D-Day – #DDay70
The paper featured some of the very first images showing what was happening with the invasion of Normandy in France. Inside it is full of stories and accounts of people who witnessed first hand the invasion as it happened.
It carries the first message to reach London from the front which was ‘It seemed like hell itself had been let loose’.
Today marks the 70th anniversary of the invasion, that saw the Allies landed around 156,000 troops in Normandy and recent research has verified that 2,499 American D-Day fatalities and 1,914 from the other Allied nations, a total of 4,413.
