Beverley Knocked Off The Top After Batting Collapse At Norwood

have slipped to fifth in the Hunters Premier Division after they drew with Easingwold at the Norwood Recreation Ground.

Ahead of the match captain Jonathan Fisher said he was looking for all 30 points from the game but by the close of play Beverley had just 7 points to show from the match.

Winning the toss, Beverley put the visitors into bat but were unable to bowl them out as they posted a score of 207/9 from their 50 over’s.

In reply, Beverley managed to score just 145 and had it not been from the heroics of Jamie Roe and Tom Haytack, who batted out the game things could have been a lot worse.

Beverley  started their innings badly losing two early wickets but started to rebuild as and Fisher built a partnership and were 80/2 at drinks.

Disaster was to strike again soon for after they resumed play as just three balls later Fisher was dismissed for 48 and shortly after that a bad call by Grantham saw him lose his wicket as he was run out for 38.

Grantham was ‘very disappointed’ with the result, he said;

“We were in control at drinks and going well having recovered from losing two early wickets. When I made the call to run it looked like my shot had cleared the fielder, but it had not.”

A direct hit from the fielder saw Grantham make the long walk back to the pavilion but with so much batting still to come at this point all was not quite lost.

However, a middle order collapse meant Beverley went from being in a position to win the game to having to hold to what they had, and it was left to the tail enders, Jamie Roe and Tom Haytack to finish the job who held on to earn the draw.

Speaking after the match, Roe, who took two wickets, made two catches as well as seeing Beverley across the line said;

“It was disappointing for us today. They started well, but we were able to restrict the amount runs they got and really fancied our chances at chasing down the score.”

“As I walked out the skipper just asked me not to give my wicket telling me a mark in the draw Column was better than one in the loss Column.”

“With so much time in the match it was very hard to bat out the game. We needed a few more runs to get some bonus points but we to be disciplined and keep our wicket.”

When asked if he found it difficult Roe said;

“Easingwold came here with a good reputation, but I felt comfortable out there today. I knew I could not let the side down so just dotted it out.”

Beverley missed out of vital bonus points, after starting the day on at the top of the table, they now find themselves 23 points off the pace with arch rivals Fenner top of the pile.

Beverley will look to get back to winning ways next weekend as they host Hull Zinagri, who are yet to win a match this season.
