Four Away Wins On The Spin For Beverley Braves

Beverley Braves made it four away wins on the bounce with a very hard fought win against Wyke in what was a decent game of .

Both sides defended well in the opening exchanges but the Braves slowly started to get on top after some great running from Owen Miller, Josh Hamlyn and Man of the match Tom Nuttall, creating chances to score out wide, but it wasn’t to be as the ball went to ground on two occasions.

However, Beverley didn’t let the frustration get to them and shortly afterwards the hard-working Cain Robb dived over from acting half to edge his team in front, then coolly tagged on the extras for a 6-0 lead, one they never really looked like surrendering.

A dubious refereeing decision in the very next set, allowed Wyke to build pressure on the Beverley try line and despite some brave efforts from Adam Greenwood and the young , they succumbed out wide. Ten tackles later, a missed conversion 6-4 to the Braves at half-time.

The second period was similar to the first with both sides waiting for the other to crack and with hooker Shamus Blades steering them around the park and Tom Nuttall eating up the metres from full back, the Braves found themselves in a great position 15 metres out and when the Wyke winger fumbled a Robb cross field kick, Bryan Usher pounced like a hungry tiger to score his first try of the season and push the score out to 12-4 following another successful conversion.

But the opposition would not lie down and came back with a try of their own, to set up the tense and exciting finish the game deserved. The conversion was missed, 12-8 to Beverley.

With tempers fraying and Wyke desperate, the Braves really had to stand up and show their metal with Hamlyn, Robb and Gaden defending like champions in the middle whilst winger Matty Shirley snuffed out any attacks that Wkye threw at him with ease. Final score 12-8.

Beverley made hard work of it but nevertheless, should be proud of the way the dug in for each other when it got tough and get themselves across the line.

Master Coach said afterwards;

“don’t wait for your ship to come in; swim out to it boys.”
