Beverley RUFC U10s Give Good Account Of Themselves On Tour

U10s squad travelled to Kingston Park, home of The Newcastle Falcons, to take part in one of the largest rugby festivals of the season. The Beverley boys gave a great account of themselves against competitors from 25 other clubs.

The boys split their squad into two teams which played 4 matches each.

The first group of lads to play for Beverley played against Ponteland. Strong running by the pack of , and James Ashley left space out wide for the backs to exploit. Oliver Rogers passing out of the tackle set up 2 tries with Oliver Scanlan (5 tries) & Max Cowie (2) finishing off some impressive back play. Final Score 7:0.

Victory was a false dawn though. The boys then lost consecutive games to Carlisle (2:0) and, despite two try-saving tackles from Ellis Webb, Billingham (2:0).

Beverley went into their final game carrying injuries and with some tired bodies. They played some excellent rugby though. Oliver Scanlan (3) & Max Cowie scoring the tries in a 4:1 win against Percy Park. Tom Hirst was voted ‘Player of the Day’ for his tireless forward play and Ellis Webb was the day’s ‘Top Tackler.’

The second group of players for Beverley had their first game was against Ryton. The feature of this contest was the boys’ ferocious tackling, with Oliver Eagle omnipresent. Thomas Wheeler ran the length of the pitch to score a stunning try. Final score 1:1. Egremont were next and proved a tougher side and Oliver Eagle’s single try was great but not enough. It ended in a 3:1 defeat.

The boys upped their aggression in the next match against Percy Park with tries for , Thomas Wheeler, Oliver Eagle and Kai Bosworth. A brilliant display which ended 4:0.

Not surprising then that the boys were tired going into their final match against Tyndale. Josh Naylor scored his first try
for the team and Harry Spence showed great bravery, continuing to play despite a few nasty knocks. Thomas Jackson and Oliver Vaux also had their best games yet. A close game but Beverley were defeated (2:1).
