Yellows Reach Semi Final Of The Cup

Mill Lane United Yellows made it through to the semi final of the Girls U16 Cup with a 3-0 victory against their club rivals.

The teams had met a few weeks earlier in a league encounter when the honours were shared in 3-3 draw.

Both teams were determined to take the early advantage as the tackles were flying in as both teams looked for the first goal.

The Yellows were having the better of the early play with and Tonya Storr looking good on the wings and creating chances and only strong defending from Mill Lane keeping them out. The game was an end to end affair with the best chance falling to the Yellows, when Holliday hit the post from an acute angle.

The half time whistle blew with the scorers level at 0-0. If the first half was a close tight affair, the second half was totally transformed as the Yellows scored three quick fire goal’s mid-way through the half to put the game out of reach of their hard-working opponents.

The first goal came after a run down the right from Holliday found Morgan Nagee free 18 yards wide out on the right from the goal, quickly controlling the ball Nagee hit a tremendous right foot shot that hit the cross bar before rebounding to Tonya Storr, who duly headed the ball into the empty net from 10yards to give the Yellows a deserved 1-0 lead.

With the first goal of the game, the Yellows took control and two further goals followed both scored by the leagues top scorer Marie(Misty) Russell to take them through to the semi finals. Performance wise a much-improved performance from the Yellows from their previous meeting, with the desire returning 50/50 tackles were won with Courtney McConville and leading by example, defensively sound with saving her best performance of the season in an assured performance.

The Yellows attacked at pace throughout with both Tonya Storr and Charlotte Holliday causing trouble down the wings whenever they had the ball , well supported by strikers Morgan Nagee and Marie Russell, who chased and harried throughout the game to constantly keep their opponents on the back foot.

Man of the match was given to the full squad for a magnificent team effort were the will and desire to win shone through and set the standard for the weeks to come.
