Mill Lane United Go Second In Table

Yellows moved up to second place in the with a hard-fought victory against Pinfleet.

Straight from the start Mill Lane were on top pressurising a physical Pinefleet defence that were ably assisted by some superb saves from goalkeeper Sarah Walters. Finally, the extra possession and territorial advantage told when a delicate through ball from midfielder Morgan Nagee got striker Marleigh Hornby in space in the penalty area, and a brilliant left foot shot gave Walters no chance in the Pinfleet goal and Mill Lane a deserved 1-0 lead.

Credit to Pinefleet who continued to fight for every ball as, they tried to get back into the game, but good defending from the Yellows with Amy Radford and Lucy Crockett showing up well kept Pinefleet scoreless. At the other end Mill Lane, were creating chances with midfielders Morgan Nagee and Charlotte Holliday looking dangerous and only some great saves from Walters kept them out.

Finally, the second goal came when a fine ball from Courtney McConville midfielder released Holliday on a run down the right wing, leaving two defenders in her wake Holliday found Hornby in space with a pin-point cross that was finished in style for her second goal giving Mill Lane United a deserved 2-0 lead at half time.

The second half started with Pinefleet determined to get back into the game and were duly rewarded with a fine goal from Emily Escreet to set up a grandstand finish. Credit to Mill Lane who dug deep and scored a 3rd goal when Marie (Misty) Russell converted after a fierce shot from Charlotte Holliday rebounded of the under side of the cross bar to give them an unassailable lead.

The final whistle went, and the Yellows from Mill Lane had extended their unbeaten start to the season to six games against well organised opponents who certainly put themselves about in a physical encounter were both teams battled hard.

Man of the match for Mill Lane United was defender Amy Radford for some crunching tackles and cover defence.
