Nine local cyclists are hoping to raise £5,000 for the Dove House Hospice Love You 2 Appeal by cycling from Morecambe to Bridlington.
The group made up of eight lads from Beverley and one from Brough will set off on their epic adventure on 6th July tackling the 174-mile journey over two days on their push bikes.
Mike Westram who is the leading the cyclists said;
“We are a social group that meets every Tuesday and Thursday at the Molescroft Inn, Beverley and goes cycling together.”
“This gives us the chance to have an adventure while raising money for very worthwhile local cause.”
One of the riders David Pennock said;
“This represents the biggest challenge to me on a personal level, until now, the furthest I have biked is 100 miles.”
“In order to prepare we are all training three times a week and when ever possible doing longer rides of up to 100 miles.”
The nine lads will set off in from Morecambe and spend one night in a bed and bread fast in Ripon before completing their journey the following day to Bridlington.
David added;
“We have not confirmed this, though there is a chance, we will top the 200-mile mark by biking back from Bridlington.”
“We have discussed this among ourselves, and the general feeling is, that so long as we are fit and able we will tap this onto the journey.”
Further support for their efforts has been made by local business The Beverley Car & Cycles owner Lee Frost that is providing with the cyclists with servicing on their machines.
Lee a keen cyclist himself said;
“I wish them all the very best of luck. It is not going to be easy, but I have every faith in them.”
Anyone wanting to a sponsor the cyclists can do so by making a donation at the Molescroft Inn or at Beverley Car & Cycles on Norwood.
