Tesco’s & 5th Beverley (Wesley) Scout Group’s Static Bike Challenge Raises £433

’s Beverley store teamed up with the last Saturday in a bid to collect money for Diabetes UK (Tesco’s national charity partner), raise additional funds for the scouts and support Scout Community Week.

Cubs and Scouts from the group undertook an eight hour static bike marathon and managed to cycle the 450km distance from Beverley to Brownsea Island (where Baden Powell held the first ever Scout Camp in 1907). Our local public health team joined in by lending the event their smoothie making bike to highlight the importance of a .

Local dignitaries Martin Cox (the new ), and Councillor David Elvidge helped to promote the event and a total of £433 was raised from customer donations.

The event was also used to raise awareness of Scouting in Beverley and in particular the need for more adult volunteers. Locally there are many more boys and girls wanting to join Beavers, Cubs and Scouts than there are places available. If more adults came forward; more young people would get the chance to enjoy the adventure.
