United Claim Fourth Trophy Of The Season

won their fourth trophy of the season when they won the White Rose Tournament at Castleford.

On a sweltering hot day Mill Lane United battled from the group stages to set up a semi final meeting against the hosts Castleford White Rose.

A game that was end to end was finally settled when defender Charlotte Holliday ran from her own area beating several defenders on the way before unleashing a tremendous right foot shot into the back of the net to give the Yellows the lead that they held on to and  set up a cup final meeting with the teams bogey side Doncaster Belles whom the yellows had failed to beat in 4 previous meeting.

The game started at a fast pace with both side looking for the early advantage.Tackles were flying in as the more physical Belles tried to knock Mill Lane United out of their rhythm.

Well lead by defenders and Charlotte Holliday who never took a backward step against some committed opponents ably assisted by impressive shot stopper  Leah Shalgosky Mill Lane United started to get on top and were edging the game as the whistle went for half time.

The second half started with the midfield of Courtney McConville and Tonya Storr taking the game to the Belles tackling everything that moved and were rewarded with a amazing goal from McConville whose challenge in the opposition area saw her shot fly into the back of the net and give the Yellows a 1 0 lead.

Visibly stunned the Belles charged forward but Mill Lane United were not to crack as they gave as good as they got in a physical encounter typified by a tremendous last ditch tackle by Courtney McConville as one of the Belles players started to charge towards goal.

The Yellows closed the game out and were rewarded with a last minute goal from hard working striker Emma Smith to make the game save at 2 0 and it was just reward for Smith after withstanding some heavy challenges throughout the game.Another tournament win for Mill Lane United Yellows were all 9 girls contributed towards the teams success as they now look forward to the Skelmersdale tournament in two weeks time.
