Horsing Around In Beverley : Protest Delivers Clear Message To Authorities

A protest held in support of Humberside Police Mounted section has passed off peacefully this morning.

Around 150 people some on horse back and others on foot took part in the march from Racecourse into the heart of the town centre.

There had been concerns police would serve an injunction preventing the protest though this never materialised and horse lovers from the region were able to make their voices heard.

Organiser told HU17.net;

“There was just about the right number of people here today. I am very pleased with how it has all gone.”

“The police today have been very supportive and helpful and not tried to stop us at all.”

Over 2000 signatures have been collected so far as campaigners try to save the Mounted Secion based in Walkington, which is due to be closed in July.

a keen horse lover was protesting today, she said;

“The mounted section has always been helpful. They provide a real presence at any event.”

“It takes a special horse to be a police horse, and if we lose them then will be sorely missed by everyone.”
