Conservatives Showing That Crime Reduction And Cost Control Can Go Together

Local has welcomed news that recorded crime in Humberside has fallen by 14 percent over the last twelve months. Crime in England and Wales is down by more than 10 percent since the last general election, and the Independent Crime Survey shows crime is at its lowest level since records began

Commenting, Graham said, “The news that crime is falling in East Yorkshire will be welcomed by local people. It’s important that we recognise the great work our police do; and the hardworking officers in Humberside Police can be proud of their success.

“Conservatives are on the side of people who work hard and do the right thing, and we are reforming the police so they can cut crime and make our communities safer. Reform of the police is a necessary part of getting Government overspending under control.”

“We’ve got a lot more to do if the public finances are to be made sustainable but the good news is that the deficit has been cut by a third since Labour left office, yet crime is also down. I know that in his Police and Crime Plan 2013-17, our new Police Commissioner has set out his vision for making our streets even safer over the coming years, and I welcome his plan to make cutting crime his number one priority.”
