Youth Bands Shine At Soundclash Festival

It was a memorable night at a historic venue when five acts took to the stage in Beverley to showcase their talents.

Following the success of last year’s event, Soundclash made its return at the Memorial Hall last week. Funded by Beverley Town Council, the festival was such a success organisers ran out of space.

The event proved how much talent the town has – all bands were Beverley-based. They were Plinth95, Bonjour Pete, The Priority, Falling Fearlessly and Operator?

, creator of the event, said: “Last summer we ran a youth showcase event as part of a creative arts festival. The demand to perform exceeded the time and space we had.

“We invited bands to apply to play and I was delighted to have five local bands playing in front of such an enthusiastic crowd.”

Not only did the concert include youth bands, but three young entrepreneurs supported it heavily. AFC entertainment provided the lighting and effects, and SL Recording produced a CD recording of the event, while controlling the PA systems.

Seb Hulse, of SL Recording said: “Soundclash is an important event as it provides a great opportunity for young people to be able to perform on a stage in front of friends and to build up a local fan base.”

“Music is such a great way for young people to express themselves in a positive way and we are excited about creating a safe environment where they can do that in front of people they know.”

The five acts covered a wide variety of genres and styles ranging from rap to psychedelic rock.

Will Blake, of Operator? and Bonjour Pete said: “Soundclash is great because I can play some of my own songs and gain some feedback. Also, as Beverley is fairly small, it’s a wonderful chance to show young people’s talents to a large audience.”

Falling Fearlessly’s Jack Hargrave explains why his band signed up: He said: “We are involved just for pure love of music. We wish to bring back rock into the today’s world. Events such as this are a good opportunity to show our talents along with other great acts. Also, it gives us a chance to get ourselves noticed around the local area: this make a massive difference.”

Soundclash was a success, continuing its popularity from last year. The night ran smoothly, the atmosphere was great, the music outstanding and thanks to a wonderful behind-the-scenes team, the local acts could entertain a live audience of friends and new fans with their musical talents.
