After being knocked out of the League Cup by AFC Sallow in what was an extremely close game 6 – 4, Whitestar arrived at Newbald in a determined mood. Within the first minute of Whitestar kicking off, the ball was in the back of Newbalds net.
A swift attack saw Dan Short draw the keeper off his line before slotting the ball across the face of the goal for James Stephenson to tap home. The second took a bit longer to get, but after a long ball was hit into the area, Alex Hawksley rose above the Newbald defence and with the lightest of touches headed it away from the keeper into the net.
Newbald settled into their game and after hitting the crossbar and forcing a spectacular save from Whitestars new Keeper, Craig Ford, it was Whitesatr who again found the net with a well placed shot from Dylan Giles.
0 – 3 at half time encouraged Whitestar to stretch the lead and keep a clean sheet in the second half.
Four further goals from Alex Hawksley, James Stephenson, Dan Short and a stunning solo effort from Alex Fox, who won the ball in his own half, ran therough the Newbald midfield & defence before calmly slotting it past the keeper, ensured Whitestar progressed into the next round.
Newbald did keep going to the final whistle and kept the Whitestar defence on their toes in an effort to spoil a debut clean sheet for the Whitestars keeper.
This was a great team performance and every player should be credited with the win. Whitestar’s next game is away at AFC Swallow in the League where they will be looking to avenge their earlier defeat.
