Family Jewellers Moves To Impressive New Premises

Local success story Hugh Rice Jewellers has been helping to find the perfect piece of jewellery for over forty years. Stocking the finest international brands, including Pandora, Thomas Sabo, Chopard, Omega, Swarovski and Tag Heuer, the team goes above and beyond to deliver premium service and the smoothest retail journey, which is why so many customers have remained loyal over the decades.

The Beverley branch is an integral part of the historic town’s shopping area, and a steady growth in sales and expanding product range has led to larger premises being required.

, Managing Director of the Hugh Rice Group, said: “Our former Beverley store served customers well though with more space there is so much more we can do, every effort has been made to create a new store that will dazzle. We’ve been very careful to maintain the original character of this listed building at by working closely with the Beverley Civic Society, whilst also succeeding in giving it a slick, modern character. The result is really quite striking.”

Hugh Rice Jewellers has been an essential part of countless occasions since 1971, providing and engagement rings, gifts for birthdays, anniversaries and graduations, watches for retirement awards and all manner of other celebrations. In recent years the Pandora range has proved incredibly popular, with its customisable charm bracelets enticing a fresh, young clientele into the stores on a regular basis.

“Jewellery is an extremely personal and important part of life for many people,” explained Mike. “We share this passion and make sure that our staff are highly knowledgeable and offer superb customer service. Now that our new Beverley store is open to the public, we’re able to take this to the next level. We envisage seeing a lot of familiar faces and plenty of new ones too, and we can’t wait to help each one of them find exactly what they’re looking for.”

The Hugh Rice Jewellers Beverley store is now situated at 67-69 Toll Gavel, a building with plenty of heritage. Toll Gavel once formed part of the original High Street, its name coming from the Gavel family who collected tolls on the route around the year 1255. The new store also fronts the ancient street of Walkergate, which people would access when arriving from one of the former gated entries at what was then a defensive walled town.

“As a local, family company we celebrate the area’s history,” said Mike. “We’re on a historic corner of a bustling thoroughfare that’s played an essential part of Beverley’s development for centuries. This, combined with our expanded store in St Stephens in city centre, means that the future is looking very bright indeed.”
