Fast Flowing Yellows Put Twelve Past Ferriby

In perfect condition’s Mill Lane United Yellows consolidated their position at the head of the East Riding Girls Football League table with a display of fast flowing football. The game kicked of with Mill Lane on the attack, but a series of long range efforts were well dealt with by a hard-working North Ferriby side.

Finally, after 10 minutes the pressure told when a fine run down the right wing by Charlotte Holliday resulted in a pin cross finding striker Marie Russell who finished with a fine right foot shot to give the Ferriby keeper no chance and Mill Lane a 1-0 lead.

Credit to Ferriby who with Scarlett Parr and Emily Cloutier leading the way winning the 50/50 balls, they started to get a foot hold in the Mill Lane half and only last ditch defence by Courtney McConville, Amy Radford and kept them at bay. Absorbing the pressure Mill Lane extended their lead when a flowing move involving Holliday, Grace Fletcher and Russell resulted in the ball falling to midfielder , who finished with a right foot shot from 20 yards to make it 2-0 to the Yellows.

With the the game ticking to half time Ferriby were awarded a penalty which was blasted over the bar. The whistle blew for half time with Ferriby giving as good as they got and Mill Lane 2 0 in front with Courtney Rushworth showing up well on her first start for the team.

Mill Lane were asked to up their tempo in the second half and play the passing football, they are renowned for. This they did to great effect with 10 second half goals as they totally blew the opposition away with some stunning moves that resulted in some great finishes none more so than the last goal of the game, a quick throw from Lea Shalgosky in the Mill Lane United goal found Holliday on the edge of her own penalty area a quick one two between Holliday and Smith got Holliday in space over half way rounding the full back before a fine pass found Emma Smith in space who duly blasted the ball into the goal from 25yards to complete the scoring.

Some of the of the football in the second half was outstanding and a true team effort with 12 girls working hard for each other resulting in some fabulous football.

Other second half goal scorers were captain Emma Johnson 2, Grace Fletcher 2(including a cooly taken penalty)Marie Russell 1 Charlotte Holliday 1 and 3 more giving her 5 in the match for Emma Smith. For North Ferriby a score, their efforts did not deserve for Mill Lane 3 more points and a magnificent second half performance from the whole team.Outstanding performances from goal keeper Lea Shalgosky, strong defence of Molly Lives,McConville,Crockett and Radford a creative midfield of Smith, Rushworth, Storr, Johnson and Holliday and deadly finishing of strikers Fletcher and Russell.

Man of the matches this week went to goal keeper Lea Shalgosky for some excellent ball distribution to start numerous attacks and midfielder Charlotte Holliday for a performance of skill, energy and teamwork.
