Yellows Beat Blues As United Girls Clash In The League

In perfect conditions Mill Lane United Yellows started the defence of their u14 East Riding Girls Football League Championship against Mill Lane United Blues last years u12 champions.

Coached by John Nassau who had the perfect 100% record over the last 4 seasons the Blues were looking to show they could transfer their dominance in mini football to the 11 a side game.

Since the fixtures were released everyone in the league had been looking forward to this fixture against 2 teams who have dominated their respective leagues since they both started at under 10s.The game started with the yellows on the attack ,but the blues were in determined mood and were tackling and harrying their older opponents as both teams tried to get the early advantage.

Over the years the yellows have been renowned for their fast attacking football and the opening goal typified this, winning the ball on half way before releasing a rampaging Emma Johnson towards the area who in turn found striker Marie Russell in space in the penalty area before finishing with a lovely right foot shot to give Jess Wright in the Blues goal no chance.

Credit to the Blues who came straight back with Demi Watson showing up well with some nice touches and causing a little concern in the Yellows defence.Over the seasons the Yellows have always rose to a challenge and today was no different as they hit the Blues with 3 more goals before half time the first a 25yard strike by Emma Smith after a superb tackle from Emma Johnson on the edge of the area the next a fine run and cross from the right by Charlotte Holliday found Russell who finished in style and the final goal of the half an individual effort from Russell giving her a hattrick on her debut for the team.

So the half time score was 4 0 to the yellows after some good passing football against spirited opponents with Skie Wyatt and showing up well in an over worked defence.

The yellows introduced Courtney Rushworth for her debut as both teams started strongly in the second half. The blues knew they had to score first to have any chance and driven on by Natalie Bell and Millie Sharp they played some attractive football with out really creating any clear cut chances.

Finally the first goal of the second half came when a long throw from Charlotte Holliday found Emma Smith in space in the penalty area and she duly despatched her second goal of the game to give the Yellows a 5 0 lead.

The Yellows were now rampant as the Blues started to tire and scored 3 more quick fire goals, the first after a quick fire move by ,Russell and Smith found Holliday in space to smash in no 6 the next a 20yard lob by the impressive hard working midfielder Emma Johnson and the 8th to Grace Fletcher as she rounder 4 defenders to get the goal her effort deserved.

The Blues did not give in and a superb shot by Natalie Bell nearly gave them the goal their efforts deserved but a brilliant save by the teams new goal keeper Lea Shalgosky kept them out.

The Yellows were now well on top and scored two more goals. A sweeping move by Fletcher and Holliday found Smith and a great finish brought up her hattrick before the final and best goal of the game completed the scoring ,a tackle by Mconville won the ball on half way Fletcher finding Smith who turned and passed in one movement releasing Russell goal bound ,rounding the keeper before smashing the ball into the empty net for her 4 goal of the game.So the game ended with a 10 nil victory to the Yellows who showed all their class with some fine passing football against a spirited Blues team who can be proud of their efforts ,but could just not cope with there more physical opponents.

Some excellent displays all round Crockett and Mconville solid in defence Smith and Johnson dominant in midfield and a classy strike partnership of Russell and Fletcher looking dangerous ,but man of the matches went to the main goal scorers Marie Russell(4 goals) and Emma Smith(3 goals).

Special mention to Grace Fletcher, Molly Pluves, Marie Russell,Lea Shalgosky and Courtney Rushworth who made their league debuts for the team.
