Athletico Promo is the newest team to enter this years Hull Sunday Football League. Richard Oldroyd and his business “The Promotion Company” who specialise in promotional merchandise, enabled an enthusiastic bunch of young ex students to form a Beverley based team for the 2012-2013 season.
With a home fixture against Hull and York Medics as their first league game , the whole team went into the match quietly confident of victory.
The early stages were largely a battle in the centre of the field with both sides showing a willing to play the ball along the ground. Sam Woolard in particular showed his flair, as he tried to ‘cut open’ and ‘wound’ the opposition with a variety of passes.
However as the game went on the away side regularly found themselves running at an unprotected defensive line, despite the heroics of Michael Starkey, Jamie ‘Chunk’ O’Sullivan and the often illuminous Alex Nightingale Hull and York Medics made the breakthrough. They later added a second when on the counter attack shortly before half-time.
The second half was a similar affair, Athletico played some good football at times without creating many opportunities and were once again punished by the medics as they added two more midway through the half.
At 4-0 down the two Lant’s entered the fray and made solid impacts on the game. With Matt’s Lionel Messi like run being a particular highlight.
Despite the Promo’s efforts they were unable to get back into the game before the final whistle. The 4-0 defeat should not be to disheartening as a lack of experience was to blame for their defeat rather than a lack of effort and skill.
Final Score Athletico Promo 0 – 4 Hull and York Medics | Reported by Alex Nightingale
