BEVERLEY : Police Appeal Relating To Contaminated Water

Police are appealing for assistance with enquiries into how a large quantity of what is thought to be red diesel was disposed of in a lake at Bishop Burton College, in Beverley.

Officers were called at 2212hrs on Friday 20 July, after it was noticed that diesel had been poured into a balancing lake and pond causing the water to be contaminated.

The balancing lake acts as a general holding area for excess water before being drained off into nearby ditches.

It is estimated that around 25L of diesel has been disposed of in the lake. A small amount of diesel was also found on a fence in a horse jumping area, adjacent to the lake.

There was not thought to be any fish living in the water, the Environment Agency have been made aware.

At this time officers do not know the exact time or date of when the offence took place, but believe it could have been within 24hrs of the incident being reported.

Enquiries are continuing and at this time it is being treated as a criminal offence.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area to call Humberside Police tel 101 quoting LOG 799 20 of July 2012.
