United Win Second Cup In A Week

Mill Lane United won their second trophy in a week and sixth of a very successfull campaign when they won the Topp Tiles U14 Girls Tournament at the King Power Stadium().

The Beverley side finished top of the group winning all six games scoring 10 goals and conceding just 2 goals as they qualified for the final against Oadby & Wyggeston FC from the Leicester Girls League.

Having already defeated their opponents in the group games Mill Lane went into the final full of confidence and dominated the early exchanges peppering the Oadby goal with some fierce shots resulting in the Oadby goal keeper leaving the field with a serious wrist injury.

The game restarted and Mill Lane took an immediate advantage when smashed a right foot shot passed the replacement keeper to give Mill Lane a deserved 1 0 lead.Credit to Oadby who with time running out scored from the restart to level the scores and set up a tense final 2 minutes of normal time.

The whistle blew taking the game into extra time and try as both teams did no further goals were scored to send the game to penalties to decide the Tournament winners.

In a tense end to proceedings the Mill Lane Girls held their nerve with the help of 3 successfull penalties from Millie O’Neill,Emma Smith and Emily Holliday and 3 excellant penalty saves from goal keeper to bring back the trophy to East Yorkshire.
