New KC Service To Unlock The Potentional Of Internet TV

Local communications provider KC has introduced a new service which lets customers make the most of their internet-connected or Smart TV’s.

Smart TVs are the latest generation of TVs that can be hooked up to the internet. Around 10 per cent of UK households have one already, and 2012 is predicted to be the year they’ll take off, as more people watch catch-up TV services like iPlayer and on-demand movies through services like Netflix.

But while more consumers are buying smart TVs, a recent poll found that a quarter of people who own them have never connected them to the internet.

That’s where KC’s new service, , comes in.

The service includes a visit from a KC engineer, who will connect the smart TV directly to the internet using Ethernet cables, hiding any messy wires away from view. They’ll also check in-home telephone wiring and make any improvements needed to make sure the customer is getting the fastest possible broadband speeds. The result is a high-quality TV streaming experience that a wireless connection can’t provide.

The service can also be used with any other internet-enabled home entertainment equipment, such as Blu Ray players, HD Freeview boxes and gaming consoles.

Customers who sign up for KC Connect will also have their monthly broadband download allowance doubled so they can make the most of the service to watch hours of on-demand TV and movies. The service is expected to be particularly popular in Beverley, where more than 1,000 households have signed up to KC’s lightning fast fibre optic broadband service, which with 100Mbps download speeds streams TV with perfect picture quality.

KC’s said: “Recent research by TV Licensing shows that the UK’s love affair with TV is still going strong, with the average person watching more than 30 hours each week

“But what’s changing is the way people watch TV – catch-up and on-demand TV accounts for about 10 per cent of all viewing these days, with BBC iPlayer alone attracting 1.8 million viewers every day. And people increasingly want to be able to watch catch-up TV on the big screen with perfect picture quality in the comfort of their living rooms, rather than hunched over a laptop or tablet computer.

“KC Connect is the only service of its type in the UK. It means our customers can make the most of the explosion in online content that’s changing British viewing habits.”

KC Connect costs from £6 per month as part of a KC phone and broadband bundle. There is also a self-install version of the service for customers who can’t be at home for an engineer visit.

KC customer Mac Jordan signed up for KC Connect last week. He said: “We recently cancelled our Sky subscription because we weren’t using it enough to justify the expense. On looking around for alternatives, we realised that most of what we want to watch is available on various services like iPlayer.

“For us it’s well worth subscribing to KC Connect just for the extra usage allowance it gives us, which is great value for money. We already stream TV and movies on an iPad and are about to buy a Lovefilm-enabled Blue Ray player, so we’ll definitely be making the most of the extra download allowance.”
