Whitestar Fail To Make Possession Count

Beverley Whitestar’s last home game of the season kicked off at instead of their usual Leisure Centre ground but the change in venue didn’t cause any problems as the Whitestar team took control of the game from the kick off.

With their usual keeper sidelined through illness, stand in keeper Olivia Gilbey had little to do for the first ten minutes as the Whitestar midfield played some good football and allowed their forward line several attempts on goal.

However; it was the visitors who struck first when a well placed through ball split the Whitestar defence which allowed their onrushing forward the time and space to pick her spot and coolly slot home. Whitestar didn’t take long to equalise and it was Lindsay Jordan who made the chance when she delivered a well weighted ball to Immy Wright who fired home to level the score before the break.

Hornsea were the quicker team to start the second half and they capitalised when the Whitestar defence failed to clear a ball that had been well saved by Olivia Gilbey and it was duly tapped home from 2 yards out allowing the visitors to retake the lead. The second goal seemed to affect the Whitestar players and Hornsea began to pile on more pressure, scoring another two goals in the process.

Hornsea could have taken a far greater advantage during that period had it not been for the outstanding defensive display given by Whitestar’s player of the match Eve Squire. The Whitestar girls did press forward regardless of the score and their best spell came in the last five minutes when Lindsay Jordan, Izzie Clark and Millie Michaels kept the visitors pegged back but they were unable to break through and the match finished Beverley Whitestar 1- 4 .

Many thanks to Simon Leaning for refereeing the game.
