Horners Trash Beverley On District Finals Day

This was the first of three Hull & District finals all staged at last Saturday.

It proved to be a real disappointment for the blue and golds as a tight game had been predicted. Their opponents appeared to have strengthened their side considerably since these two sides met earlier in the season.

For most of the game had difficulty containing the Horners backs. They however seemed compete well in the forwards with as so often this season leading the charge also Callum O’Connor proved himself worthy of a place in the starting line up with some strong running.

The first half saw the Horners outfit build up a 24-0 interval lead playing some expansive . Full back Steve Conolly was kept busy and it was down to some of his stern defence that the score line was kept down.

The second half saw Beverley stem the tide and restrict their opponents to just a further 16 points. Beverley did not get on the scoreboard but man of the match Ryan Watkin and centre Nathan Wilkinson looked the most dangerous with ball in hand.

That concludes the 2011/2012 season for Beverley’s open age side but the business of running a rugby club goes on. This Sunday afternoon will see a fundraising day that will feature a and rugby match against Hodgsons FC followed by a race night in the Hodgsons. The events will commence at 12.30pm at the Leisure Centre.

Beverley will hold their annual presentation dinner at the Hodgsons on Saturday June 2nd commencing 8pm.
