Braves Show Heart In West Hull

Beverley Braves travelled to West Hull with confidence after last week’s superb performance against East Hull and as the game kicked off in the sunshine expectations were high. Beverley soaked up immense pressure from the off as West Hull showed why they were one of the top teams in the league with tackle after tackle hitting our players hard.

Harry Bulleyment began his campaign with massive hits and strong runs but despite this it was West Hull who found the first hole in Beverley’s defensive wall to open the scoring. Undeterred though, Beverley bounced straight back with again, inspirational in the middle of the field as week in week out he puts in 100% and more. James McGahey then instigated another attack with Keegan Bartlett who made a precision pass to Joe Wardill and he released to accelerate over the line brilliantly scoring an excellent team try.

At this moment the games was anyone’s for the taking, but it was West Hull who upped their performance and the next 10 minutes saw the home side command complete control putting past 24 points unanswered before the half time whistle.

Many teams would have thrown in the towel at this point but not Beverley who continued to battle with such spirit. Bailey Foulston had an excellent game in the middle with an immense work rate and Harry Bell chased and scooted well. Players went off injured but this did not dampen the team spirit and the Braves dug deep and not one could be faulted for the effort they put in. Despite defending most of the time which tires players more than anything they did not give up. Dylan Clifford was bringing fast running attackers down again and again and came off centre regularly to put in big hits.

Outstanding performances from some West Hull players saw the game run how they had planned and respect must be showed to such a powerful side. Possession was key but Beverley still showed immense endeavour and their effort should be praised and even as the game drew to a close and West Hull broke free gave chase and brought down the attacking player to stop a certain try. This determination shown by the Braves will one day soon pay off against this top side.

They did not loose heart and the team continue to play well against the toughest of oppositions. Final score 50 – 4 and Man of the Match went to Harry Bulleyment who with Officer make such a formidable duo in the middle.
