On Saturday 4th February 2012, Historic Beverley Minster will throw open its doors, to the first, ever Wedding Fair. The event has been organised jointly by Beverley Minster PCC and local events company, Dalton Spire Ltd.
It will kick off celebrations for ‘National Marriage Week’, which this year runs from 7th to 14th February.
Vicar of Beverley Minster, Rev. Jeremy Fletcher , said, “after the war the marriage rate grew and reached a peak in 1970 of 471,000. In 1991 50% of weddings took place in religious premises but in 2009 it was only 33%. With the introduction of civil marriages being permitted in places other than Register Offices in 1990, the figure was 111,000, with 75,000 of these, taking place in traditional churches. Here at the Minster, we want to promote Church weddings and what better way than by having a wedding Fair ”
He went on to say, “in 2001 Beverley Minster held 43 weddings, but in recent years this has decreased to just 28 last year. The Church of England is trying to help couples who want to get married and the recent introduction of the ‘Wedding project’ will hopefully help.”
Whatever venue the would-be-bride and groom choose for their marriage service, they are sure to find everything they need for their ‘Big Day’ at the wedding Fair.
The event has attracted a large number of exhibitors from the local region and is being hailed as the largest, independent wedding fair in the area.

“Beverley Minster are using this event to launch ‘National Marriage Week’ but more importantly as a fundraiser, to help with on-going maintenance, and we are delighted with the support we have received from exhibitors from across the area.
What makes this event unique is not only the fantastic venue but that it has attracted a number of local hotels and wedding venues, to come together under one roof, offering the bride and groom much more choice than other Wedding Fairs.”
